MGH Marquette General Hospital(MGH) is the Upper Peninsula’s Regional Medical Center. Today, as Upper Michigan's largest health-care services provider, MGH houses many Centers of Excellence. These include a Family Practice Residency, Home Health and Hospice, Behavioral Health, a Cancer Center, a Heart Institute, Neuroscience, Rehabilitation and a Women and Children Center. As part of the Women and Children Center, MGH houses a Teens Center where professional staff help you make the Teen years what they can be ... Some of the best years of your life!
.
Today, Marquette General Hospital, in partnership with the Upper Peninsula Medical Center, hosts “Ask the Doctors” . This innovative program is a live TV show with two to three panelist physicians answering medical questions as viewers call them in to a studio. It generally airs every other Thursday on Public TV 13 in Marquette at 8-9 p.m. Eastern Time. Each show focuses on a different topic. This widely-acclaimed program is just one of many parts of MGH’s focus on medically networking the entire Upper Peninsula in preparation for the 21st Century.
.
. For those of you who are history buffs ... Marquette General Hospital got its start in July 1896 as the Marquette City Hospital on East Prospect Street. It then moved to a site on Front Street near the Peter White Library. In June 1897, the hospital moved to West Ridge Street, where its name was changed to St. Luke’s Hospital.
.
In 1915, St. Luke’s moved to the current site of MGH. Successive expansion programs hosted the James Couzens Building, the Wallace Building, an Obstetrics Unit, a Pediatric Unit and other then-innovative centers for medical excellence.
.
In 1973 St. Luke’s merged with Marquette’s other hospital, St. Mary’s, to become Marquette General Hospital. Ownership of St. Mary’s was eventually transferred to the State of Michigan and today serves as the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
.
In 1988, MGH started construction on the North or Robert C. Neldberg Building.
.
.
Speaking of construction and MGH’s preparation for the 21st Century, Marquette General Hospital is also focusing on the growth of the population in the Upper Peninsula with their Project 2000 .
.
